Rural Health Careers

Rural Health Careers Promotion Programme

The Rural Health Careers Promotion Programme underpins our efforts to grow the rural health workforce and address the rural health workforce crisis.

The purpose of our Rural Health Careers Promotion Programme is to promote rural health careers and provide advice and support to encourage rural rangatahi throughout New Zealand to pursue a career in health. The programme also aims to support current tertiary health students to work in a rural location after they graduate.

We do this through a variety of activities including rural school trips, noho marae, practice visits, career expos and conferences targeting rural tertiary and secondary school students, and particularly rural Māori students. We work closely with the Students of Rural Health Aotearoa Chapter.

Promoting rural health careers to students is a vital part of our long-term solution to the rural health workforce crisis and will ensure we have a robust, sustainable, and enthusiastic future workforce.
