Job Description

Optometrists are health professionals that specialise in examining their patients’ eyes to diagnose, monitor, and provide solutions for improving their vision and prevent or treat eye diseases.

Pay

A qualified optometrist can earn an estimated $65,000+ per year.

Work Hours

Optometrists usually work normal business hours.

Study length

Becoming an optometrist requires 6 years of training.

To become an Optometrist, you need to:

Complete the first year of the Bachelor of Science degree
Complete a Bachelor of Optometry
Have an Annual Practicing Certificate.
Complete and register through the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board

A few specialised roles an Optometrist could work in:

Contact lenses
Diabetic management
Geriatric and low vision
Binocular vision
Children’s eye care
