Ōamaru

Role

We are looking for a permanent or fixed term (1 year) General Practitioner to work 8 sessions per week (negotiable). Limited on-call work is also required.

If you are a friendly and enthusiastic team player then this is the role for you. We are seeking a GP who enjoys working in a rural community, has a good sense of humour, communicates well and is IT confident. We can provide accommodation and and a vehicle to the successful GP.

Practice

This is a long-established privately-owned practice.  The main practice is a beautiful complex constructed from the famous Oamaru Stone.  There is also a satellite practice located nearby, both practices offer the same services.  GPs are supported by two Practice Nurses, four receptionists and the Practice Manager. We are a teaching practice.

The practice has around 5800 patients, with an average of 24 patients attending 15 minute appointments every day.  Practice hours are 8.30am – 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

Location

Oamaru is located on the coast of the South Island, near Dunedin. The town is famous for its superb limestone buildings, coastal wildlife, and coastal walks. Art galleries, museums and great coffee shops can be found in the town. There are also numerous outdoor activities in the area, including fishing in the Waitaki River or the nearby Waitaki Valley Lakes, with jet boating and sailing also available. An attraction in the area is the Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony which provides an opportunity to see blue penguins in their natural environment. In the winter season skiing is within easy reach of Oamaru. Children and young adults are well catered for with schooling in and around Oamaru and universities a few hours’ drive away. Oamaru also has a library, public gardens, a hospital and professional and community services, for great rural living.
