Role Experience the friendly and ‘down to earth’ hospitality of the stunning West Coast! This rural practice is looking for 2 GPs to work in this challenging and varied environment for 8 to 10 sessions per week plus some on-call requirements for emergencies only. PRIME or trauma response training is preferred but not essential. The practice is supported by an onsite nursing team of specialists and there are also air retrieval options available. The ideal candidate will enjoy a collegial team environment and have a true passion for supporting the health needs of the community. The hours of consultation are 8.30am-5.00pm, with weekend clinics between 2.00pm and 4.00pm on both Saturday and Sundays. Appointments generally run at 15 minute intervals, but may be longer if necessary.
Practice This practice has an excellent collegial and supportive working environment providing primary health services to a population of 11,000. You will also have the rare opportunity to integrate hospital medicine, emergency work and general practice. Other clinicians visit the practice on a regular basis. There is a separate clinic 30 minutes north which is run by a rural nurse specialist, receptionist and visiting GP support.
Location Westport is a small town in the Buller district surrounded by beautiful tree clad mountains and situated next to the sea. In the last 10 years mining, tourism and agriculture have expanded and the area has experienced a renaissance. Subsequently younger families have moved into the area and the demographics have become more vibrant. If you want to get away from it all the West Coast is for you with sub-tropical rainforests, lots of walks including the Heaphy Track, Punakaiki’s Pancake Rocks and blowholes, seal colony, arts and crafts and surfing. It is steeped in history from its gold mining and whitebait fishing. For the outdoor enthusiasts, there are a huge variety of adventure and recreation activities on offer.
