Role

We are looking for a permanent General Practitioner (Family Medicine physician) to join this practice.  The GP will work 9 sessions per week (4.5 days) with some minor on call.

Practice

This is a small and friendly practice, with two GP (1 FTE equivalent), One full time receptionist with Relief receptionist support from a local whom has spent all her life in Mangakino. Full time Practice Nurse, 4/10ths Rural Registered Nurse (smear taker, diabetes educator and currently studying towards Nurse Practitioner). The Practice Manager has been employed for 31 years (and is a home grown local) with a vast amount of local knowledge and expertise in Rural Health working closely with community and DHB. The practice is fully computerised using Medtech 32.  As well as family medicine, the staff provides services in sexual health and family planning, counselling, minor surgical procedures and adult vaccinations, palliative care.

Located in the centre of the New Zealand North Island, Mangakino is the perfect place for anyone seeking tranquillity, or outdoor adventure. The town is situated on the western shores of Lake Maraetai and the famous Waikato River, and is surrounded by forest and rolling farmland. Within this friendly and flourishing community you will find all necessary amenities, along with community and cultural groups. The town has four preschool facilities a primary school and bus services to Collages close by Tokoroa or Taupo.

Mangakino is the ideal base for water sports enthusiasts. The Waikato River and nearby lakes provide excellent opportunities to enjoy kayaking, river tours, waterskiing, rafting and diving. The Waikato River Trails Trust has completed 100kms of walking and cycling trails which run alongside the township of Mangakino.

Mangakino is ideal for exploring the nearby tourist areas of Taupo and Rotorua and easy driving distance to the ski-fields of Mt Ruapehu. Whether you are an experienced skier or a beginner, the ski-fields of Whakapapa and Turoa provide amazing skiing and snow-boarding experiences. Situated right on New Zealand’s largest lake, Taupo is a thriving town with an excellent selection of cafes, restaurants, bars and shops. In Rotorua you can enjoy visits to recreations of historical māori villages, agricultural tourism farms and see fantastic thermal activity with many geysers, mudpools and hot baths.
