Invercargill

Role

We are keen to hear from General Practitioners interested in working 8-10 sessions (4-5 days) per week. Ideally the practice is looking for someone to commit permanent, however a fixed term contract will be considered.

We will offer relocation allowance and support accommodation/vehicle for the first month, either through provision of or contribution to.

Practice

This Invercargill primary care service aims to deliver whānau-centred primary care services targeting unenrolled populations, particularly those unable to access primary care.  While initially focused on delivering health care services similar to those delivered by general practices and Māori health providers, the partners acknowledge the potential for the scope of services to expand to include other community-based services in the future. This includes partnering with existing community services.

Location

Invercargill is the southernmost city in New Zealand. It is the commercial centre of the Southland region, sitting amid rich farmland bordered by large areas of conservation land and marine reserves, including Fiordland National Park covering the south-west corner of the South Island, and the Catlins coastal region to the east.

The city is superbly located for the outdoor enthusiast. Fiordland is New Zealand’s largest National Park, comprising 1.2 million hectares of mountain, lake, fiord and rainforest. It is home to three of New Zealand’s Great Walks: the Milford, Routeburn and Keppler Tracks.

Queenstown is just 2 hours drive inland, with attractions of alpine skiing in the winter and year round walking and cycling, along with a range of lake, river and mountain adventure activities.

Stewart Island is a 1 hour boat trip from the southern port town of Bluff, and home to over 280km walking tracks making it a great destination for walking, birding, fishing, sea kayaking, diving and hunting.

Invercargill is well-equipped with an excellent range of shops and a selection of lively bars and restaurants. Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco heritage buildings give the city a charming old-world character.

Invercargill is a family friendly city, with a welcoming community, affordable living and strong reputation for providing innovative and high quality education. It is home to the Southern Institute of Technology, a polytechnic which provides undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications.
