Role

We are seeking a permanent or fixed term General Practitioner (Family Medicine physician) to join our practice. You will be working 8 – 10 sessions (4 – 5 days) per week.

The role would suit a GP who has great communication skills, sound clinical and service skills  combined with the ability to provide healthcare to a full range of people in our community.

We will provide accommodation and a vehicle for the first four weeks where people are new to the district. We will also meet some relocation costs.

Practice

This is an established yet progressive practice that is motivated to provide the best possible services for our patients and wider community. We have an openness to new ideas and ways of doing things.

Our premises are high quality and we have a leadership team that recognises the value in supporting our GP and all clinicians to work at the top of their scope and pursue their professional interests.

All clinicians get a detailed induction plan that includes introductory training time with our Lead GP, Lead Nurse, Practice Manager, Pharmacist, Local Hospital and Business Manager.

This is a 5 GP practice with around 6100 registered patients.

Location

Ashburton is a major service centre for the local farming district, and sits between the Rakaia and Rangitata Rivers. When European settlers first arrived here, the area was a dry, tussock-covered expanse with hardly any trees.

Extensive irrigation schemes have transformed the land, and the story of Ashburton’s triumph over drought is told at the town’s main museum (there are six museums in Ashburton, including a vintage railway museum, aviation museum and car museum). Local art and craft galleries provide interesting shopping. Both of the nearby rivers are known for salmon and sea-run trout.

Ashburton is only one hour drive to the great city of Christchurch. If you enjoy skiing, tramping or hiking then there are plenty of great locations within driving distance!
