Winton

Role

This practice is looking for a general practitioner (GP), available from the 12th of May and concluding on the 1st of August 2025. However, there is some flexibility with these dates.

Ideally 8 sessions per week. No on call or afterhours required.

The practice would provide accommodation and a vehicle.

Primary Care is a challenge around the Motu currently, but a positive practice team who care about each other helps! They are a trust-owned, traditional rural practice and all profits are put back into their patients – so the practice is well known for longevity of staff and a strong collegial culture. All doctors and staff meet up for protected break times at least 3 times a day (with cake, cheese and crackers provided!).

Practice

Winton practice is known as the Cornerstone practice for training in the region, with long- standing GPEP1/2/3 and medical student placements, and 2 GP teachers and the lead medical educator for the region in the team.

Protecting GPs to see a broad range of patient presentations (not just the complex ones!), rostered administration time and regular peer review are prioritised.

Location

Winton gives you the feeling of being away “from the rush” of a big city, while also being less than 30 minutes away from Invercargill City and airport. Winton is a pretty, rural town, with all the amenities you need right here, but with the bonus of no parking meters or traffic lights! Well positioned for easy day trips to Te Anau, Queenstown, Central Otago, Fiordland and Stewart Island, which can include cycling, mountain biking and hiking in the mountains, skiing and more.
