Waimate

Role

A Waimate-based medical practice is actively seeking a General Practitioner (GP) to join their friendly and dedicated team in a long-term or permanent capacity. The role entails 6 to 8 sessions, with on-call responsibilities covering one weeknight and at least one weekend per month. Furthermore, the practice provides assistance with vehicle and accommodation for the successful candidate.

Practice

Oak House Medical Centre has just over 2500 patients, ably looked after by two GPs, three Registered Nurses, two Medical Receptionists, a Health Coach, Health Improvement Practitioner (HIP) and Extended Care Paramedic.  We also have a visiting audiologist and podiatrist.  The majority of our population base is over 50 but as a town with a large farming community, we cater to families and people from all walks of life.  Waimate is fine spot to settle with the family or in ones retirement with many activities for all ages.   Its our privilege to offer medical care in an area we are proud to call home.

Location

Waimate is rural NZ heartland at its best. The old-style friendliness of people in Waimate is hugely appealing – with a small town that is large enough to still allow privacy and a life outside of work.

With a location near the East Coast at a mid-point in the South Island there are a host of recreational opportunities available. A local commitment to cycling and other sports sees many clubs and facilities available for a multitude of truly kiwi activities.

Hunting, mountain biking, fishing and walking are all activities easily accessed. Lakes and camping are just up the road and skiing and mountaineering, and vineyard country is all within an easy 2 to 3 hours’ drive. If you’re interested in seeing what more Waimate has to offer then click here!

Affordable property is increasingly attracting people from towns all over NZ. Small “lifestyle blocks” and fertile soils encourage many to pursue gardening and other small-scale rural options.

Local schools are very community friendly – with secondary schooling locally or if preferred in nearby Oamaru or Timaru. Excellent universities are only 2 to 3 hours’ drive away in Christchurch and Dunedin.

As this region is centrally located in the South Island you may wish to visit the beautiful tourist town of Queenstown, Nelson or the Franz Josef Glaciers.
