Role Taihape Health is looking for a General Practitioner (GP) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to help with one or two short-term roles in January 2026. The first week is from 5 to 9 January, and the second is from 12 to 16 January. Sessions are flexible, and we’d be grateful for any availability—even just one week. Accommodation and travel mileage costs can be covered.
Location Taihape is a welcoming, high-country farming community in Northern Rangitikei, located on State Highway One between Wellington and Auckland. Its central position offers easy access to North Island attractions—skiing on Mt Ruapehu, hiking in Tongariro National Park, boating on Lake Taupo, and exploring the Ruahine ranges. Both coasts and wine regions like Hawke’s Bay and Wairarapa are within a few hours’ drive, while Palmerston North and Whanganui are just 75 minutes away. The Rangitikei River, with its dramatic gorges, shapes the region and provides opportunities for white-water rafting, trout fishing, kayaking, camping, bungy jumping, and even New Zealand’s highest flying fox. Taihape’s hill country supports farming and features stunning gardens open to visitors. A growing craft and café culture adds to its charm. Home to around 5,500 people, Taihape has strong community spirit, with one-third identifying as Māori. The town offers sports clubs, five golf courses within 40 minutes, a gym, swimming pool, arts groups, a library, museum, and essential shopping facilities. Churches of major denominations and active social networks foster cohesion. For more information click here.
