Role

We have a permanent or fixed term General Practitioner (Family Medicine) position in a growing rural community in the South Island. The role has 8 sessions per week (four days per week) with minor on-call.

If you are a team player and looking for a challenge then this is the right workplace for you. You will have a strong sense of community, and an appreciation of a work / life balance in a rural setting.

The practice will pay for your Medical Council registration.

Practice

This is a community and family-focused practice with a mission statement of “Oxford Living Well”.

The practice is Cornerstone accredited, has a PRIME contract, and provides an after-hours service through their Rural Nurse Specialist team.

You will be working with a team of three other GPs, Nurse Practitioner, Rural Nurse Specialists, Practice Nurses and District Nurses.  The patient population demographic is varied, with farming being the main industry in the region. A large percentage of the population is also elderly.

Location

Oxford is a small farming town located in North Canterbury, only 50 minutes from the major South Island city of Christchurch, and is largely a service centre for the rural Waimakiriri District. It is one of four major towns in North Canterbury, which have a combined population of around 47, 000.

The town offers a range of shops and services, including pre-school, primary, and secondary schools. All the services expected of a major city and tourist destination are available in Christchurch, including university and polytechnic facilities. There are many outdoor activities like fishing, hunting, tramping, mountain-biking and skiing, with mountains a short distance away.
