Ōtaki

Role

The Ōtaki Medical Centre is looking for a General Practitioner or Nurse Practitioner to join its experienced and friendly team.  The position is for 6-8 sessions per week over four days Mon-Thurs (negotiable), with some on-call.  The practice proudly services a high Māori population, therefore fluency in Te Reo Māori or a commitment to learn, and an understanding of tikanga Māori will be an advantage to our practice.

  • FRNZCGP or equivalent preferred but not essential.

Practice

We are a medium-sized, privately owned VLCA (very low cost access) general practice. There are approximately 6800 patients with currently 4 GP’s, 2 nurse practitioners, 6 nurses and a very experienced administration team providing support.

Location

Ōtaki is a culturally diverse town with a strong Māori influence. The population is around 8000 and the town is well resourced with shops, churches, Kōhanga Reo, Kura and Te Wānanga o Raukawa.

Ōtaki is located between the Tararua Ranges and the Tasman sea.  There are walkways through the stunning Tararua Range and Otaki Forks, where you will find picnic, swimming and camping areas. Hiking tracks range from 30 minute strolls to multi-day expeditions, with hiking huts available for a stop-over. The beach is wide and windswept – a great place for fishing or an invigorating run or walk.  The Ōtaki Golf club has a captivating 18-hole course with lush fairways, greens that won’t disappoint and panoramic views.

The Kapiti Coast offers spectacular sea vistas, glorious sunsets, untouched native forest and dramatic landscapes, and is home to the Kapiti Island nature and marine reserve.  A trip to our capital, Wellington City, will take you less than an hour’s drive.
