Role

This is a fixed term General Practitioner (Family Medicine) position from 1 December 2021 to 30 November 2022 with an option for permanent. The role has 9 sessions (4.5 days) per week plus on-call on a 1:8 roster.

We are looking for a GP that is hard-working and enjoys a variety of work including A & E. Happy to work as part of a friendly team and supportive of after-hours care in a rural community.

The practice will assist with accommodation and vehicle (3 months) and help with Medical Council registration and Medical Indemnity costs (50%).

Practice

This is a large and well-staffed practice in modern facilities with lab, pharmacy and x-ray onsite. The practice employs seven full time and two part time general practitioners; they are supported by nine practice nurses, six receptionists and a practice manager.

There are approximately 14,800 registered patients- largely made up of middle-class Europeans, a cluster of low socio-economic Maori in an adjoining village are mostly catered for by a separate marae-based clinic.

Location

Matamata is a rural town nestled at the base of the scenic Kaimai Ranges. It is well known for its thoroughbred industry, dairy farming heritage and the historic Firth Tower Museum.  Centrally situated in the Waikato region on the North Island, Matamata offers a range of walking and tramping options, golf courses and an extensive selection of cafes and accommodation. Hamilton is the nearest city and has an international airport.

Matamata is only a 45 minute drive to the beautiful beaches at Mt Maunganui and the tourist town of Tauranga. Mt Maunganui is renowned for hot summer weather and great water sports.

Since the launch of the Lord of the Rings movies and the subsequent opening of the Hobbiton movie set tours, Matamata has become a vibrant visitor destination, attracting visitors from all over the world.
