Hokitika

Role

A practice in Hokitika is seeking a General Practitioner (GP) for a long-term position available now to 31 December 2026. However, these dates are flexible, and there is potential for a permanent placement.

In this role, you will work a minimum of six sessions per week, with no requirement for on-call duties.

Additionally, the practice can assist with accommodation and provide a vehicle.

Location

Nestled on New Zealand’s wild West Coast, Hokitika is a small coastal town where dramatic nature and rich heritage meet. Set between the Tasman Sea and the Southern Alps, it offers striking contrasts—rugged beaches with driftwood sculptures, lush rainforests, and snow‑capped mountains rising in the distance.

Hokitika is famous for its long sandy shoreline, where sunsets blaze across the sky in vivid reds and golds. Just inland, crystal‑clear rivers and misty bush walks invite exploration, while nearby glowworm dell paths sparkle after dark. The town has a strong creative spirit, most famously reflected in locally crafted greenstone (pounamu), which has deep cultural significance and can be seen throughout galleries and shops.

With a relaxed pace, friendly atmosphere, and close connection to nature, Hokitika feels authentic and unspoiled. It’s a place to slow down, breathe in the sea air, and experience the raw beauty of the West Coast—perfect for travellers seeking something a little different from the usual New Zealand trail.
