Role

We are seeking a General Practitioner (Family Medicine physician) preferably permanent but would consider a minimum of 3 months. This role has 8-10 sessions per week with on-call of 1:10.

The practice is committed to delivering excellent primary care services.  It is staffed with  General Practitioners, Nurses, a Social Worker, Health Coach, HIP (Mental Health) and Clinical Pharmacist. We have 8000 enrolled patients of whom  68% are Maori, therefore we have a focus on Maori Health and achieving equity for Maori.

The Rural Hospital has a 13 bed acute ward and a small, well equipped Emergency Department.   Patients with serious pathology are able to be flown out to a larger hospital.

The practice will contribute to your travel, relocation (within NZ). A house is provided which is fully furnished, insulated and has the lawns/garden taken care of. A vehicle is also provided.

The Medical Council registration and medical indemnity costs are also paid for. The practice allows staff to specialise and upskill in their areas of interest.

Location

Wairoa lies in the Hawke’s Bay where the Wairoa River meets the Pacific Ocean. It’s in a great location for outdoor pursuits including hunting, hiking, surfing and fishing as it is surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful beaches. It’s also in close proximity to Te Urewera National Park and Lake Waikaremoana.  Just an hour’s drive away is the Art Deco city of Napier, where palm trees line the streets and where some of the oldest wineries in the country are located. Similarly, an hour’s trip north you will find the city of Gisborne with pristine and safe swimming beaches. There is lots to enjoy whether it’s white water rafting, canoeing or wilderness experiences!

Wairoa has one mainstream secondary school, Wairoa College. This offers learning opportunities to those students between the years of 7 – 13. There are also many Primary schools that offer education to students in years 1 – 6.
