Location

Hawke’s Bay lies on the east coast of the North Island and enjoys some of the best weather; long warm summers (25°C) and short mild winters.   The surrounding countryside is beautifully adorned with vineyards, Taupo (in the middle of the island) is a two hour drive away and ski fields are also close by.

Hawkes Bay has an abundance of outdoor activities with beaches, mountain biking, hiking and golfing.  In summer there are many events including the Spring Racing Carnival, the Blossom Parade, the Hawke’s Bay Food and Wine Festival and various other winery events.  A favourite pastime amongst locals is visiting Te Mata Peak with its breath-taking views.  You can either walk or cycle to the top, there are lots of trails for mountain biking on the mountain. At the bottom you can journey through a 100 year old Lower Redwoods forest.  This region is perfect for the growth of stone fruits and grapes.  There are many vineyards to visit, which you can combine in cycle tours while enjoying the spectacular vistas.

Hawkes Bay offers numerous primary and secondary schools, district libraries and is home to New Zealand’s only water theme park – Splash Planet.  There are five main rivers popular for jet boating, kayaking and swimming.  Cape Kidnappers is a headland that is home to a luxury golf course and the largest gannet colony in the world, with over 50,000 birds! Ocean Beach is the region’s premier beach.  During the summer months it has hundreds of beach goers, it’s safe for swimming and golden sand stretches out for 10kms in each direction!
