Dargaville

Role

We are seeking 3 permanent or long term General Practitioners (Family Medicine Physicians) to join our friendly team of 9 GPs. The roles are full time working 8 to 10 sessions (4 to 5 days) per week with some on-call work (no on-call required past 8pm).

The ideal candidates would be easy going and friendly, and able to build rapport with patients. You will need to be comfortable with being able to attend to emergency on-call. Your skills and contribution will be valued in Northland; General Practitioners and their families are welcomed into the community.

Practice

The Practice has 12,000 patients and provides 24-hour medical care for the area. External services are provided to two local rest homes and regular clinics are also held at local marae, or meeting houses. Surgery hours are 7.30am – 5.30pm (patients are seen from 8am onwards).

The practice holds a Primary Response in Medical Emergency (PRIME) contract and the position is best suited to someone with experience in emergency medicine, and up to date with ACLS. The ideal applicant is an enthusiastic medical practitioner, who enjoys working with a variety of clinical presentations, in a fairly busy rural general practice environment.

Location

Dargaville is built along the edge of the wide Northern Wairoa River, two and a half hours drive north-west of Auckland. Maori settlements and marae (meeting places) have been scattered around the area for hundreds of years.

The town’s population is approximately 4,250, with a further 8,000 in the surrounding district. About 25 percent of the population is Maori and much community consultation is carried out on marae, or meeting houses, with several trusts and community groups established to look after the specific needs of the local population.

The town is well-catered for with services, banks and shops, and Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Presbyterian and Methodist churches all represented. There is a local kindergarten, choice of primary schools, intermediate and high school (Dargaville High School). Locals and visitors enjoy the new 65 seat cinema, as well as rugby, tennis, bowls, badminton and golf and swimming in the 50 metre public pool, which is open in the summer months.
