The practice is seeking a friendly GP who works well with others. You will ideally have experience working in rural general practice and be able to cope with a range of situations, and people from various backgrounds. To work well in this rural community you should have some surgical and ED skills and enjoy developing an ongoing relationship with your patients.

The Practice has 3500 registered patients, of mixed demographic. This is a full time position and at present there is a requirement for GP’s to provide 24/7 care in the area, therefore each GP participates in an after-hours roster of around 1:10.

The Clinic is one of 2 general practice sites owned by a Maori Health Provider. It is 35 minutes’ drive from Kaitaia and employs 3 GPs, a Nurse Practitioner and two Registered Nurses along with admin staff. The practice is well equipped with modern facilities, and utilises healthcare assistants to optimise efficiency in the clinic. There is a great team culture among the friendly practice staff, who constantly review themselves to identify areas of improvement, in turn improving the health of their community.

The local hospital offers limited acute services, outpatient clinics, specialist clinics, radiology, and laboratory investigations. Seriously unwell patients are transferred to Whangarei Base Hospital (approximately 200 kms away). Whangarei Hospital has 225 inpatient beds and provides a full range of secondary services from modern facilities.

This is a beautiful rural settlement located in Northland. The region has a warm sub-tropical climate, over 70 kilometres of unspoiled coastline and an abundance of safe and uncrowded beaches. The settlement is located on the Twin Coast Discovery Highway touring route and is an ideal base for visiting the best of Northland – from Bay of Islands to Cape Reinga and the Hokianga.

The nearest town, Kaitaia, is 35 minutes Southwest of Coopers Beach and approximately two hours from the nearest city. Kaitaia has a population of 4000, with a further 20,000 people in the surrounding district. Enjoy life at some of the most beautiful beaches in the southern hemisphere!
