Catlins

Role

This practice has a short-term role available for a GP (family physician) to join their team in the town of Owaka beginning as soon as possible and finishing on the 16th of January 2024.

They are looking for 8 sessions a week to be covered with $600.00 a session. The practice uses Medtech32 with no PRIME or on-call work involved.

Practice

This is a small rural practice situated in the idyllic Catlins in South Otago, which has hunting, fishing and beautiful scenery to enjoy.

With approx. 1460 patients they have room to grow if a permanent GP could be found.

Our staff consists of 3 competent practice nurses, 2 admin staff and a practice manager. We all work together extremely well as a team and would welcome any new person into our practice.

Location

Owaka is a small town in the Clutha District of South Otago, in the South Island of New Zealand. It is the largest community in the rugged, forested Catlins area. The town’s population is around 330.  Only three hours from the adventure capital of New Zealand, Queenstown, for your skiing and snowboarding; an hour away from the vibrant University and Port city of Dunedin with its quirky theatres and restaurants.  Experience a delightful work-life balance.

The Owaka region has rocky headlands, sandy bays and estuaries, waterfalls and lakes alongside forests of rimu, kamahi and silver beech. Yellow-eyed penguins nest along the coast, there’s a wide variety of other penguins and bird life, and seals, sea lions and Hector’s dolphins are commonly seen.

Owaka has a range of sports facilities, including rugby, bowls, community swimming pool, netball, badminton, tennis, rifle shooting and pony club, and several cultural clubs. Close links with Balclutha further extend the range. There is a Four Square Supermarket and several café/restaurants. There is a Playcentre and the Catlins Area School in Owaka which takes students from 5 to 18 years. Catlins Area School has recently undergone a $4.3 million redevelopment.
