Murupara

Role

A medical practice based in Murupara is currently seeking short-term cover from a general practitioner (GP). The ideal duration for this cover would be 2 to 4 weeks, spanning between August and December 2024. The role offers flexible sessions per week and does not require on-call duties.

Practice

This practice covers a large geographical area and is the sole provider of GP services within a 70km radius. We are looking for someone who can be resourceful and happy to cover a wide range of illnesses and emergency presentations. A good sense of humour is essential!

Most of our patient population is Maori, some living very remotely, and knowledge, appreciation or curiosity of Te Ao Maori would be helpful. We are ideally wanting a GP who is  vocationally registered and able to work without oversight.

Location

Murupara was a staging post on the road between Rotorua and Napier before it became a timber town.

In the early 1900s, planting of the huge Kaingaroa Forest began. At 2,900 square kilometres, Kaingaroa is the largest plantation forest in the southern hemisphere.

Murupara has a predominately Māori population. With four marae in the area, it’s a good place to learn about the Māori way of life.

The town is handy to the Te Urewera National Park and Whirinaki Te Pua a Tāne – both offer exceptional wilderness hiking, hunting and fishing opportunities.

The tourist city of Rotorua is only 45 minutes away where you can enjoy thermal hot pools, great tracks, gondola rides, and amazing food and wine.
