Recently published Rural General Practice and Ethical Issues. A Rapid Review of the Literature: by Samantha Menzies, University of Auckland (pictured left), was the catalyst to our letter to the Medical Council of New Zealand requesting they work with us to review their Code of Conduct documents to reflect the realities of rural medical practice. Samantha was the recipient of our Hauora Taiwhenua and BNZ Rural Development scholarship.
The reply from NZMC Chairperson, Curtis Walker agreed, and we look forward to working with them to achieve this.
“When considering the Statements Council does have on professional boundaries and resource limitations, I can confirm that consideration of rural communities were part of the deliberations. This review will be very helpful in exploring the issues further and should inform Council’s thinking (in addition to submissions received as part of the consultation process for every Statement and Standard Council makes) as it continues to update and consider its current statements, standards and publications.” NZMC Chairperson, Curtis Walker.
