As the 2024–2025 financial year comes to a close, we take this moment to acknowledge and thank Dr Jeremy Webber for his outstanding service as Clinical Director of Hauora Taiwhenua from 2022 to 2025.
Jeremy’s tenure was marked by a deep commitment to rural communities, unwavering clinical integrity, and a collaborative approach to leadership. Over the past three years, he has played a pivotal role in shaping our clinical voice, advocating for equity in rural health, and supporting the development of clinical networks across Aotearoa.
Alongside his leadership within Hauora Taiwhenua, Jeremy also brought a strong rural perspective to several national advisory roles. He represented Hauora Taiwhenua across key groups focused on acute care, diagnostics, and quality improvement — including the Acute Care Sector Advisory Group, the Aeromedical Advisory Group, the ACC Primary Care Sector Group, and the Radiology Clinical Network. His involvement in the Antimicrobial and Point of Care Testing Advisory Groups also ensured rural realities were front of mind in national strategies around accessibility and safe clinical practice. Whether addressing chest trauma guidelines or broader primary care challenges, Jeremy consistently advocated for solutions that worked for communities beyond the main centres.
A rural hospital doctor, with strong community roots, Jeremy brought authenticity and clarity to the role, ensuring the realities faced by rural practitioners were front and centre in national policy discussions. His steady leadership helped guide Hauora Taiwhenua through significant changes in the health sector, including the transition to Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora, and the strengthening of our relationships across government, iwi, and sector partners.
Jeremy has been a trusted sounding board, a thoughtful strategist, and a tireless advocate. His legacy includes the development of our Clinical Leaders Forum, increased engagement from rural clinicians across the motu, and the steady growth of our evidence-based advocacy work.
While he steps away from the Clinical Director role, we know Jeremy will remain a valued part of the Hauora Taiwhenua whānau and a steadfast champion of rural health equity.
Ngā mihi nui, Jeremy – thank you for your leadership, your wisdom, and your service.
