The Students of Rural Health Aotearoa (SoRHA) are gearing up for some Rural School Visits in the Waikato region, departing from Auckland on Monday 21st and visiting 4 rural secondary schools to talk with their tauira. The tertiary volunteer students are passionate about rural health and are keen to share their enthusiasm with the rural community. Our applications are currently closed for tertiary volunteers; however, we are still open to include more rural schools on the tour.
Where are we going? Some of the current locations we will be visiting in this region are as follow: -Coromandel -Thames -Ngatea -Paeroa -Waihi -Huntly
If you are a school or clinic practice in this region or these towns, please feel free to contact samantha.hill@htrhn.org.nz if you wish to get involved with the programme.
The Rural School Visits is an interactive workshop where volunteer tertiary health students majoring in a range of health professions (i.e. dental, nursing, physiotherapy, etc) who have come from rural backgrounds or are interested in working rurally after graduation, will give a 1-2 hour workshop with fun activities teaching year 9 – 12 students about human anatomy, and what it’s like studying medicine and health – all through practical techniques that they’d use in real rural health careers (i.e. checking blood pressure, making dental molds, etc).
