“I fell in love with working rurally-the people, the scenery, the work/life balance. It's not everywhere that you can go scuba diving before work or manage to see orca coming up the estuary in your 30-minute lunch break! Rural New Zealand is also a wonderful place to bring up your family; they have had opportunities here that they would never have had in my home country”

Kiwis have a love of the outdoors and delight in activities that make the most of our spectacular landscape. Skiing, mountaineering, fishing, hiking, boating, bush and beach walks are popular outdoor activities.
We also enjoy our culinary diversity, particularly fresh kaimoana, or seafood, and award-winning wine and craft beer.

New Zealand is a great place to bring up your children. If you are coming to New Zealand on a work visa your dependent child is considered a domestic student and is entitled to attend state-funded primary and secondary (high) schools. State funding is not available to students from overseas at tertiary (university) level, unless the parent has applied for and been granted permanent residency.

In New Zealand we drive on the left side of the road with similar regulations applicable to the UK. Most licences will enable you to drive for a year in New Zealand before you need to transfer to a New Zealand licence and sit a theory test. Check the Automobile Association (AA) website for more information.
For travel between New Zealand’s islands, you can hop on a plane or ferry. Daily flights are available between domestic airports and passenger and vehicle ferries sail between the North, South and other islands.
Traveling by road is one of the best ways to see the country. Along with driving your own car, you can hire rental cars, motorhomes or take a bus trip to experience our beautiful road trips.
Public transport is also a popular option for many with reliable bus, train and ferry services operating throughout the country.
“I spent several months living in Hawera and practicing in Patea. The relationships with the staff at the surgery, the patients, the church in Hawera, and the community of Hawera were so rewarding and created memories that my wife and I still cherish… We still enjoy news from NZ. I can see the view of the Tasman Sea from our little domicile and the view of Mt. Taranaki driving “home” from Patea” Bill, Family Medicine Physician, Texas, USA
