"Studying optometry and visual science is important as our eyes are what help us view the world. Without the various aspects of vision that we take for granted in our abilities as human beings, our perception of the world around us would be very different. Hence, I love studying optometry in the healthcare industry to help prevent potential vision loss, protect eye health and research new technology to make further advancements. Health professionals in rural areas are of utmost importance due to poor health literacy and limited access to resources. People often have to travel long distances to get the care they need, and due to several barriers in rural healthcare, such as long waiting lists, receive care far too late. To be in such a privileged position as a health professional, I have a responsibility to give back to the community and provide care in rural regions where there is a dire need."
