I chose to study dentistry as I had an interest in healthcare and wanted to pursue this in a practical and detail-oriented career where I could help people. Oral health extends far beyond the mouth, and contributes to the overall health and wellbeing of your patients. More dentists are needed in rural areas to educate patients in preventive measures which will improve their oral health long term. Those who need dental care the most are often unable to access it due to living in a rural location. Providing treatments which relieve pain and improve smiles is highly rewarding and has a positive effect on the lives of your patients."
