Role

A Rakaia-based medical practice is seeking a General Practitioner (GP) for a short-term role, available from 19 January to 20 February 2026.

The position involves 8–10 sessions per week, with no on-call or hospital duties required.

Support with relocation, accommodation, and associated costs is available if needed.

Practice

Rakaia Medical Centre is a forward-thinking and family-orientated General Practice with 3100 patients. The team is dedicated to addressing health equity and improving health outcomes for all patients and family/whanau. They focus on providing the highest quality healthcare services for our community while focusing on preventative medicine.

Location

Rakaia, situated on New Zealand’s South Island, is a rural town along the banks of the Rakaia River. This picturesque region is renowned for its agricultural heritage and the iconic Rakaia Gorge.

Agriculture is at the heart of Rakaia’s identity, with vast farmlands and crop fields stretching as far as the eye can see. The braided Rakaia River is famous for its salmon fishing and is an angler’s paradise. The Rakaia Gorge provides excellent hiking and kayaking opportunities amid stunning limestone cliffs and native forests.

The town itself offers a peaceful and close-knit community, with local amenities, parks, and cafes. The nearby Mount Hutt Ski Field beckons snow enthusiasts in the winter months.
