Location

Northland, a region brimming with natural beauty and historical significance, offers a diverse range of tourist highlights. The Bay of Islands, a stunning subtropical area dotted with 144 islands, is a haven for sailing, dolphin watching, and exploring historic sites like the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, where the treaty between Māori and the British Crown was signed. Further north lies Cape Reinga, the spiritual northernmost tip of the North Island, where the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean converge in a spectacular swirl of currents, offering breathtaking panoramic views and a culturally significant experience as the departing place of spirits in Māori tradition. Along the way to Cape Reinga, visitors can experience the thrill of sandboarding down the massive Te Paki sand dunes and drive or walk along the seemingly endless Ninety Mile Beach. Nature lovers can immerse themselves in the ancient kauri forests of Waipoua, home to the giant Tāne Mahuta tree, while divers and snorkelers can explore the underwater wonders of the Poor Knights Islands, renowned as one of the world’s top diving spots. Charming towns like Russell, the first capital of New Zealand, and Kerikeri, with its historic Stone Store and Kemp House, offer a glimpse into the region’s rich past.
