Location Waimarino is the area that covers Ohakune, Raetihi, National Park, Waiouru and the small towns in between. The practice draws its population from this area. Raetihi was once one of the most remote settlements in New Zealand. It is located at the junction of State Highway 4 and 49, 11 kilometres west of Ohakune. The population of Raetihi is recorded as being 1002 people. Founded in 1893, Raetihi originally relied on the Whanganui River for access. Nearly 15 years later, the town was finally connected by road to Whanganui. This friendly historic town has the oldest theatre in the southern hemisphere. It’s also a place to source a wild kiwi encounter in the nearby Waimarino Forest. Close to both the Tongariro and Whanganui National Parks, Raetihi is a handy base for hikers, kayakers and snow sport enthusiasts. The Turoa ski field is only 40 minutes away. Take a look at the Raetihi / Whanganui region here.
