Role Our Katikati practice is seeking a committed general practitioner to join our friendly team for twelve months, with a view to staying longer. We currently have 11 GPs, but our register is growing and as we believe in maintaining a good work life balance, we are looking for another GP to work 6 to 8 sessions per week. This will include 1-2 sessions as the ‘duty doctor’ seeing emergency/walk in patients. We also support the local ambulance service as a PRIME site, and all doctors and nurses are PRIME trained. Nurses and the duty GP attend callouts together if needed. You will also become part of the acute care weekend roster, which operates Saturday and Sunday (mornings only), seeing acute emergencies and doing telehealth with our Covid positive vulnerable patients. Our doctors work approximately 1:5 weekends. There is no night or evening on call work.
Practice Our practice is busy, but varied, so there is something for everyone! You will work with a team of great nurses, healthcare assistants and administrative staff. We are Cornerstone accredited and a teaching practice with nursing and medical students and GP registrars. We currently have around 9,500 enrolled patients. The patient demographic is predominately NZ European, around 10 percent Māori and an increasing Pacific Island and Indian community. We care for two local rest homes and have a fairly large register of over 65years (35 percent) and 4.1 percent over 85 years. We look after them really well. You will need to have a sense of humour, be computer literate, and most importantly, be motivated to provide quality healthcare to your patients. In return we will provide a great place to work, competitive pay and delectable morning teas!
Location Katikati is a gorgeous town with a population of around 4,600 and is a 30 minute drive north of Tauranga in the stunning Bay of Plenty. With some of the best scenery New Zealand has on offer, a temperate coastal climate, bush, sea/surfing/beaches and rivers close by, many people from around the country, and the world, consider Katikati THE place to live, work and play. In fact most of our doctors have come with their families from overseas and have stayed here permanently. Local schools are highly regarded and range from pre-schools through to secondary schools. A private primary school and college are located within driving distance. There are a variety of services available in the centre of town, including two supermarkets, gift shops, clothing shops, butchers, cafes, library etc. This is a growing community with great schools, art galleries, beaches and hiking trails nearby and a variety of sporting, cultural, craft and art groups. Ski fields are a three hour drive away. Tauranga is our closest city and is only 30 minutes away with several other major cities within 90 minutes.
